Transponder Key Programming

What is a transponder key? Transponder or high-security car keys have an RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) chip in the head. They have helped to significantly decrease auto theft since their introduction, as you can’t easily start a vehicle that uses a transponder key without it. The transponder key has an anti-theft code in it which sends a signal to the car’s immobilizer to start the car. Basically, the code in the key needs to match the code in the car. A locksmith uses that code to program the key with special car key programming equipment.

Did you know that a transponder key doesn’t have a battery? So, no need to do a battery replacement on these types of keys. The radio frequency emits a low-level signal that is only activated when it is close to the vehicle, thus a battery issue won’t be the reason you need to replace or reprogram your transponder key.

Car fob replacement programming is typically simple but depends on the make and model of your vehicle, as does how long it will take. The cost will also depend on the make and model of your vehicle, but we will do it at a more affordable rate than taking the car to the dealership. NOTE: To cut and/or program a new transponder key for you we’ll need your title and registration to prove you are the owner of the vehicle.
